Position Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, developing and directing nursing department staff in accordance with all applicable federal, state, local and organization policies, procedures, rules and regulations.  This position helps to ensure the highest level of quality care is achieved for residents at all times and manages the nursing staff at the community alongside other clinical leadership.

 

Essential Functions, Key Duties, & Responsibilities

  • Assist clinical leadership team in oversight of daily operations of the nursing department as shift supervisor including (but not limited to):
    • Supervise direct nursing staff on all units to ensure provision and delivery of quality and customer service to residents.
    • Monitor staffing levels and schedule and assist in finding coverage as needed.
    • Function as staff nurse as needed.
    • Complete clinical rounds to ensure tasks are completed and department is clean.
    • Monitor completion and accuracy of resident records.
    • Communicate any issues and concerns with clinical leadership team
  • Ensure that the clinical department adheres to local, state, and federal regulations and that all organizational rules, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Respect and safeguard the confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Assist with preparation and admission of new residents including room preparation and communication with resident and family.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures and any updates.
  • 1. Staff Supervision:
    o Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on assigned units to ensure competent, compassionate, and compliant care.
    o Coordinate daily staffing assignments and ensure coverage based on resident needs and acuity levels.
    2. Shift Leadership:
    o Serve as the clinical lead during shifts, handling emergencies, resolving staff issues, and making critical care decisions when necessary.
    o Act as the point of contact for physicians, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
    o Give in-service and training to staff
    o Assist Nurses as needed
    3. Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    o Monitor nursing practices to ensure compliance with facility policies, state and federal regulations.
    o Participate in audits, infection control programs, and quality improvement initiatives, HIPAA compliance.

    Treatment Responsibilities:
    1. Wound and Skin Care:
    o Perform and document wound assessments, treatments, and dressing changes per physician orders and best practices.
    o Monitor for pressure injuries and other skin breakdown; implement prevention protocols and report changes promptly.
    o Coordinate with wound care nurse and DON any worsening wounds or non- healing wounds.
    o Monitor wounds that have not improved in 2 weeks and inform physicians for new orders if applicable.
    2. Treatment Administration:
    o Complete prescribed treatments, including topical applications,
    o Collecting specimens.
    o Accurately document all treatment interventions in the medical record.
    3. Care Plan Coordination:
    o Contribute to individualized care planning, ensuring treatments align with residents’ health status and goals.
    o Attend care plan meetings as needed and provide clinical input regarding resident treatment plans.
    4. Resident Monitoring:
    o Conduct ongoing assessments of residents receiving treatments to evaluate effectiveness and identify changes in condition.
    o Notify physicians and family members of significant changes and follow up on new orders.

Position Requirements

Education: A nursing degree from an accredited college or university

Licenses/Certifications: Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in practicing state

Experience: 3+ years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in geriatrics

On Call Rotation: Once every 5 weeks nurse rotation

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate compassion when working with residents.
  • The ability to anticipate needs of residents/clients and co-workers in a pro-active fashion seeking to meet those needs even before a formal request is made.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
